Project Overview
Co+Life is all about living in the moment, providing fun flexible spaces to more people to create a better and more positive environment for young people to live, work and play. As a result, boosting productivity and improving mental health and physical wellbeing. We are currently experiencing a massive shift in the housing market in a bid to solve the housing crisis with a community focused response. However, developers have caught on the ‘trend’, dramatically scaling upwards creating multi-million pound ‘cynical corporate dormitories’ Coldwell 2019. We challenge this approach offering the same independent self-contained living arrangements but in much smaller communities. These are connected through a central space which changes every few weeks to offer exciting new activities to work, eat or play with other members living in your community. We call it Co+Life.

Project Brief
The brief for this module focused heavily on innovation and creative risk within the sector. To do this the brief encouraged us to challenge current thinking and approaches to Co-Live / Work / Play environments through user-led design and investigations into current solutions on the market. All three areas of Interior Design were assessed including decorative, commercial and architectural. The project was also partnered with award winning architectural studio Doone Silver Kerr.
Design Rationale
- My design will be motivated by the current issues that millennials experience with renting or buying property.
- To solve these issues, I will take creative risks and challenge the current community housing available and try to make a more successful and more intimate design which celebrates community and teamwork.
- My design will be stackable so that it can be scaled up or down depending on demand/area.
Design Response
My project focused on quite a fresh and new way of looking at the housing solution for millennials. My solution acknowledged issues with current offers for housing from rent payments to not having the right spatial requirements to suit their needs. My concept revolves around a subscription based offer allowing people to bolt on extra space if and when they need it which all come fully furnished. As part of the subscription, millennials can enjoy a cappuccino space which is swapped every month containing new exciting activities wether that be to play or create together as a community.
